Description

Compete against your friends in this market themed game as you find insider secrets and use them to your advantage to make as much money as possible. All the while, make sure to watch your opponents mechanisms closely as you look to become a master of the markets!

This stock market themed board game has you face off against up to 3 other players. Each player starts off with a certain amount of money, drawing a hand of "Insider Trading Cards." Before each turn, players invest in stocks of their choice, by placing their tokens on the stocks of their choice, each stock's value being represented by the stock board. Finally, as the turn commences, players take turns playing a single card out of their hand, creating dividends and changing stock values. After 10 rounds, the player with the most value wins.

I designed, created and playtested this game alone (with the exception of friends to help play the games). I used free assets for the five stock images, however, I designed each of the cards and board myself.

The Process

This game was designed for my "Board Game Design" class. With covid restrictions, we were limited to creating in the online format of tabletop simulator. I came up with the idea for the game after seeing a couple tiktoks about people who were watching the stocks that CEO's traded to get insight on the market. With that in mind, I wanted to create a relatively simple game that was hingent on player's closely watching the machinations of their opponents. All trades made in this game are public, and the only hidden information are the cards in the player's hand, and as such, I designed and balanced around maximizing this mechanic of deducing the card the the other player plans on playing.
